COVID-19 GUIDELINE UPDATES - BROOMBALl (Currenlty no restrictions) - Sept 2022

September 17th, 2021

  • Mandatory Masking Indoor Public Spaces: Section 4: Face Coverings in Enclosed Setting (ix.x)
    Effective Friday, September 17, 2021 an interim province-wide mandatory masking order will be implemented for all indoor public spaces, including schools.

    For Broomball:

  • Individuals under the age of 18 (17 and under) can remove masks on the field of play only for the duration of the sport or activity.  Otherwise, must follow the masking policy for indoor public spaces.

  • Individuals 18 years of age and older inside the facility must always wear their mask, even on the field of play.  The only exception would be a proof of vaccination policy required by the league/organization.

  • Coaches, Managers, etc. - masks must be worn during any game or practice and follow the masking policy.

  • Officials must always wear masks, even while active in the game, and follow the masking policy.

    Proof of Vaccination

    Effective October 1, 2021 a provincial requirement for proof of vaccination or negative test will be implemented for public access to a list of establishments, businesses and event venues that bring groups of people together, including:

  • Indoor dining at restaurants;

  • Nightclubs, bars, taverns and other licensed establishments;

  • Event and entertainment venues, including conference centres, casinos, movie theatres, concert venues, live-music venues, museums, and indoor facilities hosting ticketed sporting events;

  • Indoor fitness centres, and gyms.

    Children under the age of 12 are exempt from the proof of vaccination or negative test requirement

    For Broomball:

  • Leagues/Organizations that have members 18 and older may only participate “mask free” if they implement a league/organization wide mandatory proof of vaccination policy.
  • While this would allow for adults to play while unmasked there are liability, legal and logistical considerations that need to be understood before taking such action.
  • Although proof of vaccination will not be required for facilities hosting non-ticketed amateur sporting events, including youth athletics and recreational leagues, you will still have to follow all facility implemented guidelines for league, games, practices etc.  as some local municipalities may have requirements in place that go beyond the Public Health Order. (Ex. City of Regina Facilities)
  • Any rink that is a licensed venue, this changes where you fall in these guidelines.  If you are a licensed venue, then you are required to implement a proof of vaccination or negative covid test policy and follow their own set of guidelines.
  • If your bar/restaurant, has its own entrance and exit, away from spectators, athletes etc., then the rink doesn’t need the policy, but the bar will need to follow other guidelines and set up a policy for entrance into their venue.
  • Any events being run this season, anyone in attendance will need to follow the facility guidelines put in place regardless of what your own league/club guidelines.
  • If you require admission into your venue, you become a ticketed event and therefore fall under the requirement of proof of vaccination policy or negative covid test.
  • Individual clubs can implement their own proof of vaccination or negative covid test policy, but you need to make sure you have legal consultation to make sure you are following the appropriate guidelines and are the same as the Public Health Order requirements.
  • In the coming weeks the government will be launching QR codes and QR readers, but that will not be a full solution until they are fully implemented, and everyone can get access to their health records.
  • Currently requesting clarity from the Business Response team regarding some member questions, they will be posted as soon as possible.
